Another last-stand-of-Rome bunfight, with the Romans standing very well. Battle report here.

Well, he did have a nice position to defend in.

I'm surprised the Roman cavalry rode all the way behind the Frankish line to the other flank. I would have thought the most likely tactic was for them to start ganging up on the flank and rear of the left of the Frankish line? If they could have started to weaken them before melee that should have started to give the Franks more jitters.

Sure, the cavalry could have rear ended the second Frankish line on that side of the board, but I was worried about the Frankish cavalry on my left - felt I needed to deal with them first.

Actually Peter pulled a smart move during the game (besides deploying his Warriors in two lines). He moved his cavalry from his right flank to his left - it looked like they were going to engage or at least guard against my cavalry on my right. This tempted me to advance my Bucellarii on my left to outflank the Frankish right. Once they'd done that Peter's cavalry headed back at full speed to outflank the Bucellarii in turn. That, plus the double line of infantry, nearly won him the game.

Remind me of the move distances for the different troops again Justin

1 square for HI, 2 for LI, ellies and the like, 3 for mounted. A unit can double move in column but columns do terribly if charged, so nipping around in close proximity to enemy who can attack you is a bad idea.
