I think there are rather more examples of sacred items being taken as booty than given as gifts.

I'm quite comfortable for the stones to represent cultural, religious, trading connections.  I'm not so convinced by the abandoning of the same in favour of "political" motives.  How separable were these things then?  How did power structures work?

I'd also like to be clearer on the timescales.  Stonehenge develops over centuries and the "Beaker Folk" were around for a while.

I'm sure that drink is at the bottom of this.  A bunch of guys got pie eyed and decided that it would be a great prank to dump this stone on those southern guy's favourite monument!
