Where's the river? Where are the hills.

The river is what we wargamers refer to as a 'table edge'.   The hills are, at least in the diagram in the rules illustrating this battle, represented by an area of 'sloping ground' on the Roman right and Persian left.  From the photos of the battle, there seem to be some cunning undulations in the tabletop on the Persian left/Byzantine right which might represent the terrain in question.

As noted by Patrick, the river formed the edge of the table on the Byzantine left/Persian right.   There is about a one to two inch wide section of the table showing on that edge for a dirty river.  The sloping ground/hills on the other flank are not easy to see in the photos, but were made with thin foam core board under the cloth.  This can be seen in the photo as a line going across the table next to the tape measure.  I should have brought more with me in order to make the sloping ground higher and more visible    .
