Another Roman settlement. Of course it is not obvious here whether this was known about but not excavated or a genuine new find - journalists not reliable on this they always want to emphasise novelty or uniqueness. However we are continuing to expand the known extent of Roman Britain.

Absolutely. I would be interested tontrack this one as it's on the Saxon Shore so any information possibly gleaned from it wrt late roman britain would be of interest

As far as I can tell, it is a new discovery, since Tangmere hitherto was regarded as an Anglo-Saxon site.  Also, the development is on former arable land, so unlikely, say, compared to the Beddington sewage farm dig in which participated in the 1980s, where the Victorians had helpfully recorded their discovery of a Roman villa then, less helpfully, planted a number of concrete settling tanks on top of the site anyway, that there was any prior indication of significant remains.  I have had a quick skim of the original planning proposal for the development and there is certainly no mention, which they should have done if known about.  Local concerns were focused on the impact on the Norman church.
