Note the vestigial cheekpieces, the lack of swords (surely just an artistic convenience) but correct  spearheads (well correct to time)

The way the "cheekpieces" extend under the chin, it almost looks like a plain conical helmet with coif, with the front edges of the coif being given a little point as a nod to classicizing.

I thought about that one, but they are not shown as mail. They could, of course be coifs of leather or cloth, but I feel that I would need to see a bit more evidence to go that route. It is not uncommon for helmets in the Xth century to have a cloth that hangs from the rim so it could be something like that.

These are meant to be a bit later and clearly some have hauberks.    They have a similar buttoned helmet style too.
