I think there are quite a few people on here who are casual observers. Also , additionally, responding to Slingshot is a manual process...unless you do it on here

I would echo Adrian's thoughts on the link between lack of response and lack of interest. We have no evidence to assume that lack of comment means nobody is paying an interest - it may be any interest is passive. As a matter of policy, I try to generate a topic for folks to discuss aspects of the latest Slingshot but even active members of the forum don't discuss the contents much.

Quote from: Adrian Nayler on October 30, 2024, 02:07:19 PMThe result was complete radio silence, with not a hint of any apparent interest or response from the readership. How should I have interpreted that? I think the reality is that the overwhelming majority of the readership do not publicly respond to the material in Slingshot. It was as possible that a goodly number of readers were interested as it was that a majority were disinterested. We can never really know.

For what it's worth I read a lot of the articles, I would love to have a collection of Armies spanning the millennia, but I don't, so I rarely put my oar in as I often haven't got one in that particular field or studied that period. This does not mean that I don't enjoy reading about them,
As a rules tinkerer I find Adrian's articles good value even though I am not currently entering the WoRs ring although I do have a few Macedonians and will have more soon by the look of things ( another article I have flagged to refer to.) :)

Amen to everything said above. Much is passive reading as it always has been.

I look at Blood Red Roses (having sold off all my WOTR figures) and wonder how I might plunder it for ideas for other conflicts. It just hasn't hit the top of my list yet, but I enjoy reading about people's games and what they discovered. Anecdotally, it seems to be selling well. Just what if my Scottish schiltrons took the opportunity to roll over the border? (I may even rebuild the WOTR stuff from the very nice looking Peter Pig ranges. I just love building armies! Now I'm talking myself into it....)

A lot of my gaming inspiration comes from Slingshot - always has. I read nothing on Facebook (not even my own club's site) and only read blogs if they are thrown in front of me (like Jon's was). Guess Slingshot fills a niche for me that uniquely nothing else has. Back in the day when I was Editor, the passion was electric. One committee member once told me I could drum up an article from an empty barrel.

I have received private emails from members regarding stuff I have written and it has always been positive and some have developed into further ideas. I'm pleased as punch but grateful they took the time.

A healthy and diverse Slingshot is a lucky SOA. So, write away because I read Slingshot from cover to cover and I hope most do.

I, sadly and pathetically, have too many interests and thus too many armies and figures. Welcome to today's meeting of Figure Gamers Anonomous!
