I enjoyed the 2024 Convention enormously. Many thanks to everyone involved in organizing it, to everyone who put on a game or gave a talk (or indeed both!) and to all the attendees who helped make it a success.

I played:

- My first game of Pandemic Fall of Rome on Friday night. Guided by Richard Jeffrey-Cook, a collection of first-timers managed to scrape a victory.
- Ray Briggs' Breach and Scutcheon rules on Saturday morning, my Roman legion beating up some Cisalpine Gauls as my colleagues' troops fell apart around me.
- Not a game as such, but John Drewienkiewicz and Matt Bennett's session on how to refight Maldon on Saturday afternoon. Some very useful ideas.
- Wolves in the Forum, John Bassett's map/committee game of Roman Republican politics and civil war in 43 BC, on Sunday morning. It's been ages since I played anything in this style. In fact we more or less fended off civil war, nobly preventing the spilling of Roman blood (at least for now).
- Nick Harbud's game of Oi Navarcoi! on Sunday afternoon. A fast and furious trireme fleet-action game, in which my ships ended up fleeing or at the bottom of the sea.

It was indeed a great weekend - not least because I got to sink a lot of Duncan's ships  ;D

A brief report of Day 1 proceedings can be found here

And day 2 proceedings here

Duncan was unlucky inasmuch as he found himself fighting two-thirds of the enemy fleet with half of his own side's squadrons, whilst Graham Evans took the other half and unsurprisingly managed to duff up a single squadron, having got the drop on them with a flank attack!

However, all the players readily picked up the rules from a double-sided QRS and heartily entered into the spirit of the game.

An excellent weekend, despite Nick not understanding how our tactics in "Oi Narvacoi!" came so close to success. Duncan was troubled by his usual hapless dice rolling.

...and for those who expressed concern for the loss of limbs during the Dance of Death I have succeeded in recovering and reattaching all but one of the missing arms.

Everyone should read Graham's blog on his weekend here.

This was my first visit and I had a great time.  All the speakers were excellent and the games enjoyable.  It is a bit of a trek from Scotland and I was actually glad that I left after lunch on Sunday as otherwise the drive home would have been more difficult.  I hope to come again and if I do I would stay the Sunday night to get in Sunday afternoon gaming.

Be my guest - I've added a link to a report on Day 2 - but it pales beside Graham's post

Please, yourself. If you want more pictures I have a few. and I expect you'll want a clear picture of the Edgcote booklet cover.

Won't you.
