Please note that the Convention this year will take place in September, and not October, on the 26th-28th.

We are at a new venue - Missenden Abbey in Buckinghamshire. The move was forced by the exorbitant increase in prices from Madingley. Shame, but that's the world we live in. We have to face the fact that prices of everything are rising and that this type of weekend will get more expensive over time, but the increase from Madingley was just too much.
I've been to Missenden Abbey a couple of times for the Conference of Wargamers (COW) run by Wargames Developments. It's different to Madingley, but I believe it will serve us well.
We will soon be taking bookings - keep an eye out for the notifications.
I hope to see many of you there.

Please don't take this a a dig at the organisers who do a difficult job well.  I am just a little frustrated that I can't go as I took a chance on organising something else which now clashes.  Ah well, roll on 2026.

Imperial Dave

Really sorry about that Dave. It was completely out of the blue the change of venue and date

I enjoyed Maddingly as a venue but must confess a 3 rather than a 4 hour drive is a good sweetener.

Rob and I were discussing the convention earlier and wondering when/if we could book. Any news on this being firmed up. No sign-up on website or here - unless we have missed something?

Just waiting for webmaster Toby to set up the relevant page and Cartloom items on the Society website.  All will then be revealed to everybody by one of my occasional Society News emails.  Yes, all Members will get this email, even if they believe that living outside UK makes it all irrelevant to them.

Last year there was one attendee from Greece and another from Hong Kong.  So no one is excused from attending due to distance.

Thanks Nick, I will let Rob know to book the Friday off.

There is a chance that my next UK visit will coincide with the convention but I won't know for a while.  I hope that I may continue to set a good example to the overseas membership to join the convention.   :)

Right, I've booked now.

Now I just have to decide what my talk's going to be about.

And then write it, of course.

Its a better date for a meeting than the previous October half term date.

But still a long way from any public transport links for those of us living further north than the Humber river.

And well done on the price front too.

Very tempting but too tiring a drive these days. And from a brief look see not easily linked to rail network.  (Not that I am an expert on what rail links exist down south.)

Not quite sure how far North of the Humber you are, but a train from York to King's Cross, followed by a transfer to Marylebone to pick up the Chiltern line will get you to Great Missenden in about 3.5 hours.  A lot quicker than getting there from Hong Kong!

CarlL

Indeed Keraunos.

In that sense UK gamers are spoilt for games and trade conventions.

I am not quite as energetic at the start of my eighth decade as I was 50 years ago!

I shall investigate how far Great Missenden is from the venue.

Of course its two bus rides and then a train from Scarborough to get me to the York mainline station!!

So energy levels do not always match the challenge. (and public transport isnt quite as frequent as down south! My two eldest daughters enjoy access to multi options and service every ten minutes in their north and south London homes, my local bus is one an hour from 7.30am till 5.15pm Monday to Saturday and no service on public holidays, Sundays or evenings!! Thankfully I can still walk to a pub to get a beer or watch those mega stars of the Premier League .... LFC of course... oops I may have pressed the politics button....
