The article specifically says that the Greeks of Italian Cumae founded Parthenope, which suggests that the sub responsible for the headline hadn't actually read the article.

I was once told to provide more copy than needed. If you provide more, subeditors merely cut it down. Provide too little, subeditors have to invent stuff to fill the space
