Slingshot is a bi-monthly publication, distributed to members of the Society of Ancients as part of their membership subscription. Most of the content is contributed by Society members on a wide range of items related to Ancient and Medieval military history and wargaming. There are articles, reviews, letters, game design ideas, as well as the usual discussion on various wargames rules. Competition results and the occasional battle report are also published. Our quality publication showcases the written contributions from our membership and features original pen and ink artwork.
A PDF index of Slingshot, covering all issues from 1965 to 2020, is available from our Downloads page.

SLINGSHOT, the bi-monthly journal of the Society, is the most admired publication in its field. This USB stick includes every Slingshot produced from 1965 to 2020. It constitutes an invaluable resource of over 13,000 pages about ancient and medieval history and wargaming. The collection is fully indexed and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7.0 or later. |
The 2006-2010 CD is aimed at anyone who has the 40-year Slingshot CD/DVD (from the first beginnings to the end of 2005) and wants the next five years without spending £35 for the 45-year DVD. The CD itself contains all issues from 2006 to 2010, issues 244 to 273 inclusive. Choose your issue using a new and eye-catching sliding graphic display of issue covers, and right-click on the cover of your chosen issue to view the contents in a down-scrolling pdf.
This CD is also the only way - apart from ordering the 45-year DVD - to obtain 2006 and 2009 Slingshot back issues. |
This is a downloadable PDF that contains a wealth of additional material by Alistair McBeath for his excellent Argnoautica series of articles in Slingshot. It's pretty large (15Mb) so you will need to download it from Cartloom by clicking on the Add To Cart link below (don't worry - it's still free).

Payment is via Paypal; Paypal should automatically convert your currency. You do not need a pre-existing Paypal account to use the site; but you will need to create a PayPal account in order to make the payment - PayPal now requires this because of anti-money-laundering legislation. If you're in a territory not supported by Paypal, contact the Membership secretary using the form on the Contacts page and we'll try and work something out.
If you don't want to buy the products online, please download the postal sales form. A third option (to using this cart, or to using the postal service) is to just go to Paypal and use the "Send Funds" function there to wire payments directly to membership AT soa.org.uk (replace the AT with an @); this may be helpful if you want to use the online service but are having problems with it.
Family Memberships are memberships which provide all the benefits of membership except for a Slingshot subscription (e.g. a membership number, vendor discounts, forums access). They are available to individuals living at the same address as a full (Slingshot subscribing) Society member. They were previously made available on a chargeable basis. They are now free. To ask for a family membership, please submit your request via the contact form, setting the Topic to "Family Memberships" if it is not already that.
Your membership subscription includes the Slingshot postage price, worldwide (yes, the price is the same for everyone). Other items from the store are charged for postage at cost, which is calculated during your checkout process.
